A pilot risk assessment project in the workplace, launched in April, has been successful. The company has therefore decided to increase the number of employees involved in this work.

How it works: Employees are given special books with tear-off risk assessment cards. Before the start of the shift, employees inspect their workplaces and fill out a tear-off card.

If there are any hazards or equipment malfunctions at the workplace, employees note this on a slip sheet. They also make proposals to eliminate violations or improve working conditions. At the end of the shift, the card is handed over to the dispatcher. The head of the section checks all loose sheets, processes information on violations and proposals and sends it to the appropriate services.

“Today, 485 employees are involved in the risk assessment process, these are excavator drivers, car drivers, mining maters, mechanics, site managers and their deputies. Gradually, the number of workers involved in this process will increase,” said Evgeny Lozovoy, Deputy Director of the Solntsevsky coal mine for labour protection.

For feedback, every week a report on the elimination of violations and the implementation of proposals is placed on the information stand. At the end of the month, the results of this work are summed up, the most active participants are encouraged by the management.

“These are the first, but confident steps. We are not going to rest on our laurels and will constantly improve the risk assessment system at the enterprise. Our goal is to ensure the safest working conditions,” added Lozovoy.
